I come by writing and brand storytelling by way of my liberal arts education and passion for story in all forms. As a kid, I was a voracious reader, journal writer and aspiring poet. This isn’t surprising–I was raised in the Salinas Valley, where John Steinbeck’s stories and characters are part of the history and landscape.
In the late eighties, I graduated from San Francisco State University with a Bachelor’s in French. (What can I say? I’m a romantic; my parents met and fell in love in Paris.) I went to work as a freelance publicist for a theater production company and temped for Miller Freeman Publishing. I also pounded out articles (in English) for local newspapers and magazines.
In 1989, as a publicist at the San Francisco Art Institute, I pitched story ideas to national and local media and wrote newsletter pieces, press releases and pitch letters about the work of painters, filmmakers, sculptors and performance artists on the bleeding-edge of their craft. This prepared me for my next gig — in of all fields, computer technology publishing. In 1990, I left non-profit for corporate America.
This was the decade of high-tech. As PR manager for PC World magazine I was in the thick of it, promoting the magazine’s consumer advocate stories, and circulation and advertising programs–securing interviews for editors on “Good Morning America” and other top news programs. I also had the honor and pleasure of writing and editing PC World’s award-winning Marketing Edge newsletter.
In 1995, with the dot.com boom heating up, I left PC World to start Credible Communications and write fiction. While juggling multiple clients (many crazed start-ups with unrealistic deadlines, which I managed to meet) and motherhood, I completed my first novel, The Love We All Wait For. It was published in September 2008. I’m halfway through my second novel (some people never learn).
Today I write for companies of all sizes and craft brand stories for small business owners. I’m happy when my clients happy, so I work hard and deliver quality work.
